I’m always surprised when I ask someone to guess what skull I’m holding, and they reply, “Bird?” I have to remind them that birds don’t have teeth. Of course, they do have bill sheaths, which aren’t always intact. Some geese have little spikes on thier sheaths, giving them the appearance of teeth.
Bird skulls are a touchy subject. It’s mostly illegal to own any bird native to North America due to the Migratory Bird Treaty Act of 1918. Consequently, all the bird skulls I have are from overseas.
If you come across a bird carcass, chances are you can’t keep any part of it; best to leave it be.
The birds I do have include some domestic geese and ducks, chickens, quail, turkey, African ibis, a Ural owl (with scleral rings!), Ivory-billed aracari, Javan kingfisher, Thick-billed raven, Oriental pied hornbill, African pied hornbill, Black-casqued hornbill, Eurasian oystercatcher
Here’s some pics.
